
True Detective font has the quality of evidence — clean, clinical, and entirely devoid of the kind of decorative energy that might suggest anyone behind this production is enjoying themselves. Nic Pizzolatto’s 2014 HBO anthology series demanded title typography that could hold the weight of Rust Cohle’s nihilistic monologues and the Louisiana bayou’s slow, rotting beauty without tipping into melodrama, and the minimal sans-serif with its careful spacing and cold authority accomplishes exactly that. Two alternatives approach this same restrained, documentary-serious register: Alternative 1 and Alternative 2.
