South Park font is the typography of a kid who has been given a crayon and told to write the title of their favourite TV show, then transferred wholesale onto a Comedy Central series that has been satirising American culture with anarchic precision since 1997 — and the genius is that the latter is exactly what it looks like while also being a carefully sustained creative decision maintained across nearly thirty seasons.
Trey Parker and Matt Stone’s animated series needed title lettering that could credibly claim to have been produced by the elementary school children at its centre, and the wonky, uneven, enthusiastically imperfect hand-lettering delivers that fiction with such commitment that it becomes its own kind of sophistication.
