American Horror Story Font

American Horror Story font uses ITC Willow — an Art Nouveau-inspired typeface designed in the 1990s with tall, narrow proportions and unusual geometric interruptions in the letterforms that create a visual unease entirely out of proportion with its relative restraint — and it is one of the best-matched typeface-to-show relationships in anthology television history.

Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk’s FX series, which has reimagined American horror archetypes across a dozen distinct seasons since 2011, needed title typography that could function as a kind of recurring visual constant across wildly different settings and tones, and ITC Willow’s strange, elongated unnaturalness provides exactly that continuity. The freely available American Horror Story Font brings this distinctive uncanny register to creative projects.
