Bugonia font is Churchward Roundsquare — part of the extensive typographic legacy of New Zealand graphic designer Joseph Churchward, who spent decades creating one of the most distinctive and idiosyncratic font libraries in the Southern Hemisphere before his death in 2013. The typeface’s name alone signals its design logic: the letterforms negotiate between the round and the square, occupying a formally unusual middle ground that feels simultaneously ancient and modern, ceremonial and clinical — which maps with precision onto the aesthetic of Yorgos Lanthimos’s 2025 film, in which two men kidnap a businesswoman in the belief that she holds the power to save the world, a premise that is simultaneously absurdist and ritualistic.
